When is the last time you did something to treat yourself?

When's the last time you did something lavish to treat yourself? How about for someone you care about?

Do you remember how it made you feel or how it felt when you did something for someone else?

A friend asked me that the other day and I realized two things. First, I'm more likely to treat others than I am to treat myself. Secondly I rarely ever treat myself. It was a sad realization. I noticed that I tend to get so caught up that I rarely take time to spend on caring for myself physically or mentally. I've become a master at multitasking and learned to justify every minute spent or every purchase for business or personal development. But at what cost?

Last year I decided that I was going to spend more time on the things that are really important to me. Personal interests like family, mental health, and physical health. However, somewhere along the line that promise got lost in the shuffle.

Enter my friend, asking questions. Reminding me that I need to revisit my promise to myself. I thank God for amazing friends who ask the tough questions!

My answer then was less than lackluster, so she reminded me that not only is it okay to treat yourself, but that you deserve to. It reminded me that I need to check in with myself more often to evaluate whether what I'm doing or focusing on aligns with my long term goals.

I found that shifting my focus to long term results has had a HUGE change in the way I see things daily. I still look at the value of time and purchases as long term investments but in a way that is now more well-rounded and includes more personal health and wellness goals.

The first small thing I’ve added is to spend more time in the morning in prayer and/or Bible study. To just carve out the first moments of the day, before I do anything else, to meditate inward and upward. I take notes in my journal or highlight things that stand out to me. I’ve also been working hard to find and write down at least three things to be grateful for every day.

Sometimes I add a skincare treatment and turn my morning quiet time into a relaxing spa retreat. Spa time is something you would think I do more often in my business but I’m usually rushing and I don’t often slow down to enjoy the experience. Setting aside time for regular relaxing bubble baths has also been on my list for months. I always feel so refreshed after a bubbly soak in the tub.

It's still a work in progress but I'm happy to say that so far the results have been great! Change can be scary but I'm always blown away by how even small changes can have huge results!

Which brings me back to the question we started with, when's the last time you did something lavish for yourself or someone else? See something else I did to treat myself here.
