Saving My Natural Hair With PropoliThera and Chi Serums
I’ve always struggled with dry hair. Even after I went natural and stopped using harsh relaxer treatments. My ends just never retained moisture no matter what I tried. Until I started using Chi Essentials Repairing Serum and Elastine PropoliThera Hair Serum. Now I’ve seen so much of an improvement in the health of my natural hair.
Hair serums made all the difference for me. I was used to piling on oils but I learned that oils didn’t add moisture and hydration, they just sealed it in. But if your hair is already dry, there’s nothing to seal in. I realized that I needed to target the cause instead of just addressing the problem.
How are hair serums different from conditioner?
You might already be familiar with serums for your face (if not, you should really try them) and the serums for your hair work the same way. They’re very lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver moisture and treatment to your hair. Unlike conditioner and hair masks you leave them in.
I first started using Chi Essentials Repairing Serum last summer and saw a huge difference from day one. Right away my natural curls were more defined and looked more hydrated. It’s a super lightweight formula that doesn’t weigh your hair down but also doesn’t feel like it evaporates and leaves your hair unprotected. It was the first time my curly locks were smooth, bouncy, and had so much movement. Over time, I started seeing fewer split ends which created a smoother healthier look.
For colder months I felt that I needed a little more protection from the drying environment, so I also added another serum called Elastine PropoliThera. Its a formula featuring propolis, royal jelly, and honey. You can find more about it in my unboxing here. I found that while PropoliThera was better at sealing in the moisture and still felt lighter than oils. I still loved the damage repair and moisture from the Chi Repairing serum, so I combined the two and started using them together.
Just like you can stack face serums to deliver different targeted treatments, hair serums are also light enough to combine without becoming too heavy. In fact, using Chi and PropoliThera together gave me smoother results, and my hair still felt light. Using a combination of the two has made a huge improvement in the health of my ends and now my hair is no longer feels weighed down and oily. Not to mention I’ve reclaimed the time that I used to spend whipping together natural oils for DIY hair butters.
How do you add serum to your hair routine?
Personally, I prefer low maintenance hair care that involves just a couple of products and as few steps as possible. The way I use these serums is to apply them after washing my hair, while it’s still wet. First I section my hair into two. I add Chi Serum first, because it’s the lighter formula. I work it into my hair using my fingers and the palms of my hands, then I repeat with PropoliThera. For a wash and go, I style it while it’s still damp then let it air dry. If I’m wearing an updo I allow my hair to fully air dry before styling. Neither of these products leaves my hair feeling stiff or sticky, so I can easily manipulate my hair with my fingers after drying to style. I included a video of My Super Simple 2 Step Wash & Go below to show you how easy this is.
As a bonus, both of these serums make my hands feel amazingly soft.
If you haven’t tried hair serums yet, there’s no better time than the present. Both Chi Essentials Repairing Serum and Elastine PropoliThera can be used in various hair types to repair split ends and protect, even from heat damage.
