5 Nail Care Tips for Maintaining Your Nails At Home
Maintaining healthy and beautiful nails is essential for achieving a polished and put-together look. But with all the harsh chemicals and environmental factors that our nails come into contact with on a daily basis, it can be challenging to keep them in top shape.
Here are a few tips that you can easily incorporate into your nail care routine to help you maintain strong, healthy nails that look and feel their best.
1) Moisturize your cuticles regularly:
Dry and cracked cuticles can lead to painful hangnails and infections. By keeping your cuticles moisturized with a nourishing oil or cream, you can prevent these issues and promote healthy nail growth.
I love moisturizing hand creams like Avon Senses Sparkling Grapefruit & Orange Blossom Hand Cream the scent is so fun and refreshing. But, if you prefer little to no scent one of my customer favorites is Avon Care Silicone Glove Protective Hand Cream.
2) Protect your nails from harsh chemicals:
Cleaning products and nail polish removers can contain harsh chemicals that can weaken and damage your nails. To avoid this, opt for acetone-free nail polish removers and wear gloves when cleaning.
If you don’t like to wear gloves (or forget like I do) try a moisturizing naturally derived dish soap like Cucina Essentials Dish Soap. It uses citric acid to break down stains instead of chemicals so it tough on grease but gentle on your hands. The Cucina Essentials Spray On Dish Soap is another great option if you love foaming action.
My favorites are the Red Apple (Red) and Garden Basil (Green).
3) Don't forget to file your nails:
Regularly filing your nails can prevent them from breaking or snagging. Use a gentle nail file and file your nails in one direction to avoid splitting.
4) Keep Your Nails Clean:
Regularly cleaning your nails can prevent the buildup of bacteria and fungus. Use a soft-bristled brush and gentle soap to clean under your nails, and avoid using sharp tools that can damage your nail bed.
Now this might sound weird, but the Avon Foot Works Pedicure Tool works just as well for hands as it does for your feet. I keep the brush in a dish near my sink to make sure I keep under my nails clean and if my hands feel a bit rough (which happens a lot especially when I’m woodworking or working outside) I use the pumice to gently exfoliate.
Save the metal grater for the soles of your feet though.
5) Use Nail Supplements:
Certain vitamins and minerals, such as biotin and calcium, can help improve the strength and appearance of your nails. Consider taking supplements or incorporating more nutrient-rich foods into your diet to promote healthy nail growth.
For added anti-oxidant protection I also like to take re:tune Inner Beauty Hair, Skin & Nail Health. You know I love products that multitask! This supplement has Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Biotin, and Calcium all of my top beauty basics.
You can find another one of my favorite Niacinamide products in my review here Avon Isa Knox Anew LX Ultimate Skincare Collection
If you’re not a fan of pills or if you just prefer to drink your supplements you can also find Vitamin C and Calcium in the re:tune Inner Beauty Hydration
As always, remember to consult your physician prior to taking this or any supplements.
Your nails are one of the first things that people notice about you, so it's important to keep them looking healthy and beautiful. With these simple nail care tips, you can maintain strong, healthy nails that look and feel great.
Remember, taking care of your nails is not only good for your appearance but also for your overall health and well-being.
It can even be therapeutic! I like to do my nails on a Sunday afternoon as a part of my mental health spa day routine. It feels good to see your nails and know that you did them yourself. Added mood boost!
Even if you haven't done your own nails in the past or feel like you're not good at it, learning something new and mastering it is also a great confidence booster.
