Blogger Know How: 40% Commission on Affiliate Links

This weekend I was chatting with a fellow beauty blogger working to build her following & commission earned from her favorite side hustle. She was sharing with me how excited she was about an opportunity to earn 10% commission through the sales from posting affiliate links to her blog with an affiliate program.

A few minutes later as we were walking a call came in on my phone. It was one of my customers, calling to tell me she had received the order she placed online and loved all the products in her order.

My blogger friend then asked 2 simple & interesting questions that got me thinking.

Q1. Do you receive a commission when customers order online?
A. I replied yes. The commission with Avon is the same whether I deliver personally or my customer orders through me online. Plus my customers love receiving their orders faster and directly to their door.

Q2. How much commission do you earn on online orders?
A. As a top seller I earn 25%-50% but all Avon representatives’ earnings start at 20%-40%.

My blogger friend’s jaw hit the floor so fast I almost instinctively reached out to catch it. She exclaimed "40%-50%!?" I told her, yeah! Not catching on immediately. It took a minute under her exaggerated expression of bewilderment for it to hit me.

Affiliate links have become the "hot topic" among bloggers and #sidehustlers these last few years but it's nothing more than the sales model of getting paid a commission for referring friends and family to purchase with trusted brands referred to them by friends whose opinions they trust and value. You share products, brands, & restaurants you love without them paying you for it anyway. Avon has been one of the forerunners in the commission for referrals business plan for generations having started way back in the 1800s. They were even forerunners in the movement to allow women to earn independent income with their own business before they were even allowed to vote!

Of course, back then before the advent of technology and the web, the equivalent to an affiliate link was crossing the street to ring the doorbell or calling your favorite representative on the phone. But, times have changed and so has the way businesses operate.

So, yes. Affiliation with Avon, a top beauty brand, allows us to earn up to 50% commissions when customers use our links to shop with us. That far surpasses most affiliate partnerships out there. :: insert grin here ::

As my friend picked her face off the floor I said "Just wait till you hear about all the free products, clothing, & accessories I've gotten as gifts."...
