An Educated Woman In An Empowered Woman
I'm so excited about Avon's new Beauty for A Purpose initiative!
Years ago I joined Avon to help with my tuition, books, supplies and or even daily needs in college. As you know, when funds are tight every dollar makes a big difference and not having to worry about where I was going to find
the money for books was a huge weight off my shoulders. So was not having to eat Ramen everyday. When I started on this journey that's where my Avon business made a difference in my life.
Over the years I've had the pleasure of working with others who were balancing school and life to show them how I was able to stay in control of my schedule by building my business instead of working for someone else and letting them determine my schedule.
There are so many mothers out there who made the decision to go back to school who struggle with balancing families, school, and a work schedule in addition to everything else because bills have to get paid, class or no class. It can be really challenging to stay in control of finances and time. I see many women burn out and as a result their grades, work, and family life suffer.
Then today I heard the news that Avon is taking another step in their mission to empower women by partnering with Capella University to provide a 10% tuition discount, thousands of dollars in grants or even FULL SCHOLARSHIPS for Avon representatives! You already know how much we love setting our own hours and creating our own schedules, so partnering with Capella's online higher education opportunity seems like a no-brainier.
Even though I'm done with school AND HAVE NO PLANS OF EVER GOING BACK. I was so excited to hear this for two main reasons.
First, I know how much these savings on tuition will mean to so many families. Combined with the earnings they're generating from their Avon business the financial burden can be greatly reduced. For most people the loans taken out for graduate programs are additional debt that get's piled on top of existing undergraduate loan debt. Now, here is an opportunity for every representative (yes, I said every because all representatives are eligible) to save more and therefore reduce their loan burden.
Second, knowing that I belonged to a company that believed so strongly in women's empowerment that they felt that it was important to provide greater opportunities to help their representatives advance their education makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside. Already Avon has a scholarship program that representatives and their families can apply to, which was great on its own, but this is definitely taking another step in the right direction.
With their "Beauty for a Purpose" motto I'm loving that Avon is showing that we're not just another beauty brand we're a brand with many purposes that go beyond "just selling stuff". They're going beyond creating opportunities for women to discover financial freedom, again great on its own, to helping women further themselves, develop as professionals, advance their careers, and realize dreams.
Reading the announcement was like hearing Avon say "We believe in you. We support you. We know that there are other things that are important to you and those things are important to us too." WOW!
I've always loved the support and encouragement that I received from my Avon district managers, fellow representatives and even customers to peruse my career as an architect. Now I can pay it forward and encourage others the same way, every time I share share this opportunity.
