3 Steps To Mistletoe Ready Lips

Vibrant reds are usually the go to shades for the holidays and the list of cherry, wine, rose, and scarlet goes on and on and on. You can find some of my picks for this season her. First and foremost, before we even talk about colors, let's begin with a solid foundation. Whether your formula of choice is stick,

gloss, stain, or tint, you want your lips to be in healthy soft & smooth condition. I suggest that having party ready lips starts the night before your event.

Step 1:
Prepare your lips overnight so that they are soft and well moisturized. I recommend Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing & Repair Moisturizing Lip Balm. This is actually a staple of my winter routine to protect against the wind and cold of winter. Apply the MT Lip Balm at night right before bed when you moisturize with your favorite night cream. (Hint: If you have fine lines around the mouth lipsticks can run outside your lip line. Plump those lines out with an anti-aging wrinkle cream like Anew Clinical Line Eraser with Retinol Targeted Treatment.)

Step 2:
In the morning apply more MT Lip Balm and use an old, wet toothbrush or washcloth to gently exfoliate lips to remove any dead skin. The key here is gently! The result will not only be moisturized but smooth lips.

If you prefer glosses or tints you're ready to go. If you prefer lipsticks, or stains you can take steps to make your color last a little longer by following Step 3.

Step 3:
Just like you prime your face for your foundation and powder you can prime your lips before applying your color to help it stay put longer.

Start by dabbing on a tiny, tiny bit of MT lip balm if you rubbed/washed it all off in the previous step. Just so that your lips aren't super dry; but remember you don't want them to be oily either. Then Next, dab a little concealer on.
Next draw in the outline of your lip with a lip pencil. Try Glimmersticks lip liner. Outlining your lips will help keep the color from running. After outlining fill in the entire lip with the pencil. This will give your color something to stick to.
Follow the lip liner with the lipstick formula of your choice. Wait! I know you think you're done but to really add longevity to your color don't go just yet.
Instead, take a tissue and blot your lips. Then lightly dust your lips with a translucent powder to set the color. I use a tiny bit of Ideal Flawless Loose Powder in Translucent.
Follow that with another thin coat of lipstick and NOW you're good to go. Even when the outer layer of lipstick fades you'll have more under the powder so it won't look like the color has faded as much.
