Got License? Panel At The NY American Institute of Architects
Yesterday I had the honor of participating as a panelist at Got License? an event hosted by the AIANY and organized by the Emerging New York Architects Committee.
The panel featured both emerging professionals and experts from the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB), New York State Education Department (NYSED), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), to discuss licensure and share their personal experiences.
As an intern architect currently completing the Intern Development Program (IDP) and the architecture licensure exams, I admitted to the audience that fear of failing kept me from testing for five years. Eventually, my supervisor and mentor recommended that I take the exam without studying to overcome my fear. His motto was “Just do it".
The event was a success and motivated emerging architects to face their fears and schedule their licensing exams to continue their pursuit of licensure.
Panelists:
Amanda Rivera, Assoc. AIA, (ENYA co-chair); Martin Smith, Manager, IDP, National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB); Jared Zurn, Assistant Director, ARE Development, NCARB; Robert Lopez, Executive Secretary, New York State Education Department (NYSED)
Venesa Alicea, Assoc. AIA, (ENYA co-chair ); Georgiana Haynes, Assoc. AIA (ENYA)
